Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company Limited (GujSAIL) is the nodal agency for development of aviation and related infrastructure in the state of Gujarat. However, seems its director, Capt Ajay Chauhan let his flight of fancy get the better of him.
Based on a recent complaint filed by officials, the state government ordered an inquiry to probe charges of using the jets and choppers for private use and to “fly around” his family.
“There have been several instances when he used the jet to fly around his family. He is a trained pilot and can man the helicopter, gliders and aeroplanes with ease,” shared tight-lipped insiders.
Finally, Tuesday saw the axe for Capt Chauhan. He has been stripped of his office as director, civil aviation, GujSAIL. Taking his place is Nitin Sangwan, a 2016 batch IAS officer and director, Fisheries Department, Government of Gujarat.
It is significant to note that GUJSAIL was initiated by the state government in 1973 to help farmers with spraying pesticides and fertilizers. Cloud spraying operations were also undertaken to create artificial rain when monsoon was low.
