The Minister of Digital Transformation and Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister urged Elon Musk to start Starlink Service to provide relief to the Ukrainian citizens. And in a few hours, Elon Musk declared that his venture Starlink’s services have been activated in Ukraine.
Though the request was not accepted immediately. it is yet not clear how widely accessible the Starlink service would be in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin had declared special military operations in the eastern areas of Ukraine. The Russian troops have unleashed airstrikes and bombarded the capital city, Kyiv.
Iis is important to note here is that Starlink offers internet services directly via satellites orbiting around the Earth. This technology can provide internet in hard-to-serve places where fiber optic cables and cell towers do not reach – a critical backstop in times of disasters. SpaceX plans to take thousands of Starlink satellites into orbit.
In a tweet, the Minister said, “While you try to colonize Mars — Russia try to occupy Ukraine! While your rockets successfully land from space — Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people! We ask you to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations and to address sane Russians to stand.”
Musk replied within a day, “Starlink service is now active in Ukraine. More terminals en route”.
