Sri Lankan police officials have announced on Friday that they have captured an accomplice connected with four Sri Lankan nationals arrested in Ahmedabad for allegedly planning terror attacks at the behest of the banned Islamic State (IS).
The accomplice, who was arrested by the terrorist investigation division of police, is the son of a notorious drug lord and is currently undergoing questioning.
The accomplice was captured in the Maligawatta area of Colombo.
The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad apprehended four suspected terrorists on May 19 at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport.
The accused, Mohammad Nusrat (35), Mohammad Faarukh (35), Mohammad Nafran (27), and Mohammad Rasdeen (43), admitted to investigators that they had previously been connected to the banned National Thowheeth Jamath (NJT) militant organisation in Sri Lanka before joining IS with the help of Abu, a Pakistani handler.
The accused received Rs 4 lakh in Sri Lankan currency in exchange for their activities, according to reports.
