The central government on Tuesday released a list of five states/UT amid increasing cases of Covid-19 and has advised them to keep a close check on the spread of infections and take the necessary steps to contain and manage the pandemic.
The Ministry of Health and Family Affairs has asked Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Mizoram in a letter to follow a risk assessment-based approach for opening economic and social activities. As to prevent losing the gains made against the pandemic to date.
“There are a few states reporting a higher contribution to India’s (Covid-19) cases and higher positivity. The ministry has advised all states/Union Territories to follow a risk-assessment based approach on the opening of economic and social activities without losing the gains made so far in the fight against the pandemic,” the letter read.
The states shall monitor clusters, intensify genome sequencing along with keeping a close track of severe acute respiratory illness and influenza cases in hospitals, said Health Secretary, Rajesh Bhushan while urging for a stricter approach and vigil on the pandemic situation.
He emphasized the need to implement the five-fold strategy of testing, tracking, treating, vaccinating and following Covid appropriate behavior along with an attempt to detect early warning signals of infection spread. To track the Covid-19 virus, its spread and evolution, testing and surveillance are significant ways to track down the virus and eventually take steps to curb it, the secretary added.
This comes after India reported a total of 1,247 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday with an active caseload of 11,860.
