The Southwest monsoon of 2024, which initially arrived in Navsari, South Gujarat, on June 10, has encountered a sluggish progression, resulting in delayed rainfall across most parts of the state. While Valsad and Navsari districts in southern Gujarat have experienced incessant rains, the rest of Gujarat continues to grapple with heat.
Typically, the southwest monsoon reaches South Gujarat by June 15th, Ahmedabad by June 20th, and extends to Saurashtra and the Rajkot-Jamnagar area by June 25th, eventually covering Kutch by June 30th. However, this year, the absence of conducive weather systems—such as monsoon lows or cyclones—has hindered the monsoon’s advance.
As a consequence, Gujarat may face a delay in substantial monsoon showers, with only light rainfall expected in coastal areas over the next week.
Forecasted Monsoon Progression
According to forecasts, the monsoon is projected to reach Saurashtra and Central Gujarat by June 25th, eventually enveloping the entire state by June 30th, including North Gujarat and Kutch.
