The controversial Sheena Bora murder case took an unexpected turn when the CBI informed the court that the two packets recovered from Raigad in 2015 are missing from their custody.
Sheena Bora was allegedly killed by Indrani Mukherjea- her mother, and her ex-husband with the help of her driver on April 24, 2012. The murder, however, came to light only in August 2015. Police alleged that the burnt and dumped dead body found in the forests near Gagode-Khurd village in Raigad was Sheena Bora’s.
The shocking revelation came to the fore during the examination of forensic expert Dr. Zeba Khan. The public prosecutor appearing for the CBI informed the court during the hearing on May 7 that, despite a diligent search, two marked packets containing the evidence (bones) could not be located. The packets were crucial for producing them before Dr. Khan for identification.
One of the most controversial criminal case in India features influential couple Indrani and Peter Mukherjea. Indrani is accused of killing her daughter Sheena, whom she initially presented as her sister, in connivance with her previous husband and her driver. The motives are attributed to a dispute over money, blackmailing, and Sheena’s affair with Peter’s son from a previous marriage.
Few family tales get so sordid as the Mukherjea story. They were multi-millionaires and well-respected media tycoons., hobnobbing with the rich and famous till the day the whole hell broke loose. There was a faint and unconfirmed hint of Indrani’s father having fathered Sheena, a reason behind Indrani calling her sister and keeping her hiding.
Indrani, impeccably dressed in designer saris in the 2024 NETFLIX documentary “The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth,” never flinched for a second and denied any role in the crime. The documentary shows that Indrani is after power, money, and instant popularity. It shows her as a social climber and a gold digger. Going by the reports, Indrani comes across as someone who has neither family values nor ethics.
Indrani Mukherjea is out on bail granted by the Supreme Court in 2022 after more than 6 years as an undertrial.
It is relevant to note that Indrani has claimed to have paid a bribe of Rs 35.5 crore to then Finance Minister P Chidambaram for helping her in the INX case. Chidambaram has spent 105 days in jail in this case, which he said was a political vendetta.
