Popular social media influencer Turkey’s Kubra Aykut, who became famous for marrying herself, has reportedly died by suicide in Istanbul.
The 26-year-old ‘sologamy’ fame influencer was first believed to have fallen to death from the fifth floor of a luxury apartment building in the Sultanbeyli district of the Turkish capital.
However, the recovery of a suicide note at the scene confirms she might have deliberately jumped off the building to kill herself.
During the last few days, most of Kubra’s followers were visibly concerned about her posts on social media.
These posts had started to appear disturbingly, quite often, few hours before her death, when she posted a haunting letter on her account asserting that she was struggling with weight loss.
“I’ve gathered my energy, but I can’t seem to gain weight. I lose a kilogram every day. I don’t know what to do; I urgently need to gain weight,” she wrote in her final post.
In one of her last viral TikTok videos, before she was found dead, Kubra was seen cleaning up her house.
Kubra had garnered one million followers on TikTok and 2,07,000 followers on Instagram mainly, due to her amazing series titled “Wedding without a Groom” which started trending on TikTok in 2023.
The wedding of Kubra Aykut was quite interesting because she married herself wearing a tiara, white gown, and other accessories as she proclaimed, “I cannot find a worthy groom for myself.”.
Fans and followers of the deceased reacted to death news with shock, pouring immediately on social media to pay their respects and lodge their mourning over the untimely demise of a creative individual whose life breathed so much joy and inspiration through her content.
Kubra’s death has also started conversations about mental health and the pressures that can come from an online existence as a social media influencer.
