 1) ‘Safar Kitabon Ka’

Nayana Soparkar’s ‘Safar Kitabon Ka’ is an ode to books – mankind’s most precious catalyst of growth since aeons. The 1000+ playful sculptures carved out of feather-light clay and fibre are reminiscent of the time when people from all age groups enjoyed staring at pages instead of screens.

The installation of myriad suspended colourful readers is a constant reminder for onlookers to take a break from scrolling on phones and start reading books again. The innumerable gold-tinted and white miniature paged books made of old magazines, newspapers, waste papers, erasers etc. showcase the valuableness of literature and wisdom within books, while the readers sitting in exceptional positions reflects the unbound joy of venturing out into the imaginary world of books. Nayana’s sculptures don’t have an age bound and they can astonish from a 6-year-old to a 60-year-old with their vivacity.

Nayana as a sculptor has pushed all the limits to dedicate the entire show to books. She has made sure to use real books as a base for the sculptures and has meticulously selected all the small chairs and benches on which the sculptures are resting. She has even got a few of the chairs customized to get the desirable results. The show opens on September 20th, 2021 at 079 Stories, Opposite Shashwat Bungalows, Rajpath Club Road, Bodakdev, Ahmedabad 380054 and will remain open for all every day from 12 noon to 7 pm until October 3rd, 2021.

The 64-year old’s ‘Safar Kitabon Ka’ actually started decades ago when she used to buy books from airports while travelling. She bought interesting books from across the globe of a particular size that she knows can complete before reaching back home, and in each book, she jotted small handwritten credentials that includes the destination of travel and dates. Not able to find bookstores anymore at the airport these days and looking at people engrossed in screens instead of reading, inspired her to create this unique spectacle exclusively on books.

After her last solo show, Echoes of Innocence, where she gave a tribute to the childhood memories through small sculptures, Nayana has got a grip on the Japanese clay material. In fact, she has modified it to make it more durable and lightweight. While preparing these sculptures during the lockdown she once faced a shortage of material but she bounced back again as soon as things opened up.

She has a niche in collaborative art exhibitions and has previously accumulated people from all walks of life including artists, celebrities, RJs, housewives and even jail inmates, to paint on 91 miniature rickshaws and 275 miniature cricket bats.

“Ardhviram” is a rollercoaster and adventurous journey of the author, who struggled. He is a man with a different perspective to life. He has a unique personality and is an old school man who is ready to face all his demons

The story has taste of vanity, and the main reason for the procedure is that the life, being a normal one, reflects numerous others, and in troublous circumstances such as our own, may give the experience of many as against only one. Thus, the Author does his work since he feels that, at the expense of some unpleasantness to himself, he may illuminate a portion of the run of the mill issues that are vexing the spirits of his contemporaries and the next generation. This perchance may provide assistance to some brothers who are struggling in the darkness, thus bring them cheer, when gloom has them in its grasp.

Since us all, people of this anxious and energetic age, encompassed by powers we faintly observe, yet cannot up till now comprehend, unhappy with old thoughts, and half scared of new, insatiable for the material results of the knowledge, brought to us by Science, but looking askance at his agnosticism as regards to the soul. Yet loaded up with other worldly goals, since we all have similar tensions, similar pains, a similar longing trusts, the equivalent enthusiastic want for information, it may well be that the story of one may help all, and that the tale of one should that went out alone into the darkness and on the other side found light, that struggled through the Storm and on the other side found Peace, may bring some ray of light and of peace into the darkness and the storm of other lives.

He wrote his Poetry Book as he wishes to bring about a change in the mindset of people and to inspire all to live a better life. He is a simple man with some dreams and ambition.
