Punjabi singer Karan Aujla, renowned for his powerful voice and popularity among youth, enjoys a massive fan following across India and overseas. However, his upcoming concert in Chandigarh on December 7 has stirred controversy after local resident Professor Panditrao Dharnevar reportedly lodged a police complaint against Aujla, accusing him of promoting harmful content in his songs.
Media reports claim that Dharnevar says that Aujla’s songs promote violence, drug use and alcohol use. He has asked the artist to not play songs like “Chitta Kurta,” “Adhia,” “Few Days,” “Alcohol 2,” “Gangsta,” and “Bandook” at his concert in Chandigarh.
In addition, Dharnevar warned to file lawsuits against Chandigarh’s Director General of Police (DGP) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for defamation if Aujla performed these songs.
Earlier this year, Aujla was hit by a shoe thrown from the audience during a performance in London. Offended, the singer confronted the shoe thrower and invited him to the stage.
Critics have previously condemned Karan Aujla’s music. Dharnevar had previously complained about Punjabi artist Diljit Dosanjh, which prompted the Telangana government to send him a notice.
The Telangana government sent Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh a notice last month before his Dil-Luminati tour concert in Hyderabad. The performance was subject to constraints imposed by the government, one of which being that minors were not permitted on stage.
The notification also asks Dosanjh to abstain from singing songs that encourage violence, drugs or alcohol. Additionally, concerns were expressed regarding the possible harm that flashing lights and loud sounds can cause to children during the event.
