Gandhinagar, Gujarat: In a landmark move, the New Age Makers Institute of Technology (NAMTECH) and ITE Education Services (ITEES) Singapore have signed a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to revolutionize India’s technical and vocational education (TVET) ecosystem. This strategic partnership, witnessed by the Union Education Minister, paves the way for a dynamic collaboration aimed at shaping a future-ready workforce for the country.
Driven by India’s ambitious goal of becoming the world’s third-largest economy by 2030, the demand for skilled technicians in critical sectors like manufacturing, semiconductors, and automobiles has skyrocketed. Recognizing this need, NAMTECH and ITEES Singapore – a renowned subsidiary of Singapore’s Ministry of Education – have come together to establish a world-class TVET infrastructure in India.
At the heart of this collaboration lies NAMTECH’s School for Social Impact, envisioned as a catalyst for transforming vocational education. Equipped with cutting-edge laboratories and offering internationally recognized ITEES Skill Qualification (ISQ) programs, NAMTECH’s Gandhinagar campus is poised to become a model for vocational excellence. The inaugural batch of students for the International Professional Technologists Program (iPTP) commences in March 2024, catering to both ITI-certified and diploma engineer aspirants.
Leveraging its vast experience in catalysing TVET excellence across India, ITEES Singapore brings its expertise to the table. This synergy aims to not only elevate the existing ITI ecosystem but also introduce innovative outreach models to ensure inclusivity and nationwide impact. The MoU paves the way for co-creating institutions inspired by ITE Singapore’s globally celebrated model, further strengthening India’s vocational education landscape.
The partnership outlines a comprehensive roadmap, with ITEES Singapore acting as a strategic knowledge partner. By providing robust training for NAMTECH staff and supporting institutional project delivery, ITEES Singapore will play a crucial role in scaling up this initiative. Meanwhile, NAMTECH will establish a dedicated project development unit, recruit and train subject matter experts, and meticulously craft world-class technician programs aligned with the ISQ framework.
Further solidifying this alliance is the establishment of a trainer development academy at NAMTECH. This dynamic platform will offer industry-connect programs and action research initiatives, allowing industry partners to actively contribute to shaping a workforce that meets the demands of the ever-evolving industrial landscape.
Commenting on the MoU, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Education Minister, hailed the collaboration as “commendable,” stating that it aligns perfectly with India’s vision for vocational education and skill development. He emphasized the partnership’s significance in meeting the needs of the growing economy and ensuring a competent workforce for the future.
Mr. Bruce Poh, CEO of ITEES Singapore, expressed his excitement about contributing to India’s educational landscape and leveraging their expertise to empower learners and enhance the competitiveness of industries. He highlighted the shared commitment to excellence in vocational education and training that underpins this strategic partnership.
Mr. Sanjay Sharma, NAMTECH Board Member and Vice President of ArcelorMittal, expressed his belief that this collaboration marks a significant milestone in nurturing a proficient workforce in India. He reiterated NAMTECH’s commitment to creating an impactful experiential learning environment that meets the evolving needs of the Indian industries.
This partnership between NAMTECH and ITEES Singapore promises to usher in a new era of quality vocational education in India. By combining global expertise with local context, this initiative has the potential to empower individuals, fuel industrial growth, and ultimately propel India’s journey towards becoming a global economic powerhouse.
