In recent times, the issue of hair fall has suddenly risen quite a lot amongst the people. Be it due to Covid or increase in stress, increase in pollution, or our increasingly unhealthy lifestyle choices, almost every other person seems to be suffering from it.
If you are losing hair up to 100 strands a day, then it is normal. But, if your hair fall exceeds >100 strands/day, then you need to be evaluated by a Dermatologist to find out the cause of hair fall. Your doctor might need to check your haemoglobin, serum ferritin, TSH, Vitamin B12, and D levels.
But there is no need to panic. Here are a few hair care tips which can help you minimize the hair fall and maintain healthy hair:
- Massage Shampoo gently on the scalp and let it flow through the length of the hair.
- Do not rub shampoo vigorously in the scalp and hair.
- Just gently massage it on scalp and let the foam flow through rest of the hair.
- Do not skip the Conditioner.
- Use conditioner after every wash.
- Apply it from mid-length of your hair to the tips.
- Don’t use it on the scalp.
- Do not dry the hair harshly with a towel.
- Be gentle. Wrap the towel around your hair for 4-5 mins to absorb water.
- Then, let it air dry.
- Minimize the use of heat-styling tools.
- Like blow dryers, hot combs, straightners, curling irons.
- They cause a lot of hair damage.
- Do not comb your hair when it is wet.
- Hair is more prone to breakage when wet.
- So, comb the hair only after it is dry.
- Use a wide-toothed comb.
- Do not pull your hair tightly in ponytails, buns or braids.
- Traction can lot of hair breakage.
- Protect your hair while out swimming or in the wind.
- Use hair protective gear like caps, scarfs, dupattas, etc.
- Dirt from the atmosphere, chemicals in the pool, harsh wind can all damage the hair.
- Have a healthy diet and some add-on supplements.
- Zinc, magnesium, selenium, iron, multivitamins, omega-3 fatty acids are all very essential for healthy hair.
