The family of the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, born Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, has refuted rumours of an impending addition to their family. Balkaur Singh, the father of the late singer, took to Facebook on Tuesday to address the speculation that has been swirling around their family.
“We are thankful to Sidhu’s fans who are concerned about our family. But we plead there are so many rumors going around about the family, that they are not to be believed. Whatever news, the family will share with you all”, he wrote in Punjabi, urging fans and followers not to believe in baseless rumours.
The clarification comes in the wake of reports published in February by the Indian Express, which claimed that the parents of the late singer were expecting a new addition to their family. The reports had suggested that his mother, aged 58, and his father, aged 60, were set to welcome a baby.
Sidhu Moosewala, a popular figure particularly among the youth, was known for composing and producing his songs. He was considered one of the wealthiest Punjabi singers. Despite his untimely demise, many of his songs have been released posthumously, garnering millions of views.
Moosewala, who had unsuccessfully contested the Punjab Assembly elections on a Congress ticket from Mansa in 2022, was tragically murdered on May 29 of the same year. He was shot dead by assailants in his car in Jawaharke village of Mansa district. Despite being rushed to a hospital immediately, he succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical attention.
Since Moosewala’s murder, his parents have been leading a movement to seek justice for their son. The music video for his last song prominently displayed a flag with the message “Justice for Sidhu Moosewala”, symbolizing their ongoing fight for justice.
