The Pune Rural Police arrested a 23-year-old man named as a suspect in the murder of Punjabi singer and politician Sidhu Moosewala. Santosh Jadhav was detained from Gujarat by one of the Pune Rural police teams on Sunday night, according to an official, and his police custody was later secured.
The team has also apprehended another person linked to Jadhav, who is also suspected of being involved in the Sidhu Moosewala case. According to one official, the Pune police is expected to release more information about the arrests later on Monday.
Jadhav, from the Pokhari village in the Pune district, has up to five cases filed against him with the Pune Rural police, including murder, attempted murder, and extortion. He was also charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, alias Sidhu Moosewala, a Congress leader and singer, was gunned down near Mansa on May 29, just days after the Punjab government reduced his security cover, as it had for many others in the state. According to the Punjab Police, Moosewala, 27, was shot at while driving his SUV in the village of Jawahar Ke in the Mansa district with two others. He was rushed to the Mansa Civil Hospital and pronounced dead.
