In a startling incident, a 32-year-old English teacher from a private school near Sholinganallur in Chennai has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for eloping with a Class XI boy. The teacher, identified by the pseudonym Angel, had befriended the 17-year-old student in her school, leading to a shocking turn of events.
Angel, who had separated from her husband a few years ago, developed a relationship with the teenage boy. Concerns arose when the boy did not return home from school one day. His parents, upon inquiry with the school, discovered his absence and immediately filed a complaint with the Thalambur police.
An investigation was promptly initiated, revealing that both Angel and the student were absent on the same day. Mobile location tracking indicated that they were in Karamadai, Coimbatore. Acting swiftly, the police located and secured the duo in Karamadai.
During questioning, Angel claimed that they were on a tour to Karamadai. However, the police, considering the sensitive nature of the case, booked Angel under the Pocso Act at an all-women police station. Subsequently, both individuals were subjected to a medical check-up.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of students, prompting authorities to address such cases with the seriousness they deserve. Investigations into the matter are ongoing to ascertain the full details and implications of this troubling episode.
