A school bus carrying students and teachers of Sarasvati Vidhyalay of Ushker village met with an accident on Mandvi-Kim highway in Surat district on Wednesday morning. The bus collided with a dumper truck near Usker village, injuring 30 students, four teachers and the bus driver.
The bus driver, Kisan Vasava, suffered a fracture and was trapped inside the damaged bus. He was rescued by cutting the metal body of the bus and taken to a hospital. The driver of the dumper truck fled from the scene, abandoning his vehicle.
The accident took place when the bus was on its way back to the school after picking up students of class 5 to 8 from Logama village. The police said that the road where the accident occurred was under construction and repair. The students and teachers were given first aid at a local health centre and later shifted to a hospital in Surat. Some students who had headaches were sent for CT scan, the police added.
