The Supreme Court has directed that Mukesh Ambani, the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, and his family members be given the highest Z+ security protection both domestically and internationally.
The court said that they must fund all costs and costs associated with providing respondent Mukesh Ambani with the highest level Z+ security cover, whether he is in India or overseas.
On Monday, these guidelines were issued by a panel of judges that included Krishna Murari and Ahsanuddin Amanullah. The security cover provided to the respondent Mukesh Ambani and his family has been the focus of debate at several locations and in various High Courts, according to the court.
The State of Maharashtra and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) are required to give respondent Mukesh Ambani and his family with the highest Z+ security protection while they are travelling throughout India and overseas per the court’s orders.
“Having heard learned counsel for the parties, we are of the considered opinion that if there is a security threat, the security cover provided and that too at own expense of the respondents, cannot be restricted to a particular area or place of stay. Looking into the business activities of respondents nos. 2 to 6 (Mukesh Ambani and his family) within the country as also outside the country, the very purpose of providing security cover would stand frustrated, if the same is restricted to a particular place or area,” the court said.
Senior Counsel Mukul Rohtagi, who is representing the respondent, claims that the respondent was given the highest degree of Z+ security cover due to ongoing threat perception assessments made by the Mumbai Police, MHA, and Central government.
He further argued that the responder continues to run the risk of being targeted in an effort to financially destabilise the nation, and that this risk extends beyond India’s borders to include any international travel. Also, it is mentioned that responders are in business.
The highest level of security cover is necessary to protect them due to their influence both domestically and abroad, as well as the fact that their foundation’s charitable efforts reach even the most isolated regions of the nation.
