Zeeshan Siddique, son of the late NCP leader Baba Siddique and Bollywood actor Salman Khan have received death threats just weeks after Baba Siddique was shot dead in Mumbai, allegedly by members of the Bishnoi gang. Police have arrested a 20-year-old suspect, Mohammad Tayyab alias Gurfan, in Noida’s Sector 39 in connection with the threats. The arrest was made on Tuesday and the suspect is being transported to Mumbai on a transit remand.
The threats were issued via calls made on Friday, 25 October, with a complaint filed shortly after by Zeeshan Siddique’s office. Siddique, an Ajit Pawar-led NCP MLA representing Bandra East and Salman Khan were also targeted with ransom demands from the caller.
Baba Siddique was fatally shot outside Zeeshan Siddique’s office on 12 October, during Dusshera celebrations. Police report that 15 individuals have so far been arrested in connection with his murder. The Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility, reportedly due to Baba Siddique’s close association with Salman Khan.
The threats come as Zeeshan Siddique recently re-entered politics, joining the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction on 25 October. He had previously been expelled from the Congress for alleged cross-voting in the Maharashtra legislative council elections. Siddique has announced his intention to contest the upcoming 20 November Maharashtra Assembly elections for Bandra East, the constituency he previously won under a Congress ticket in 2019.
Baba Siddique, a former Congress MLA, represented the undivided Bandra constituency for two terms before resigning from the party earlier this year to join the NCP.
