The Mumbai Police has given permission to Bollywood actor Salman Khan to carry a licensed gun for his personal safety after he and his father, veteran writer Salim Khan, received death threats earlier this year. A hand-written note addressing the father-son duo was recovered in June, which stated, “You will meet the same fate as Moosewala.” Moosewala, a popular Punjabi singer and a Congress leader, was killed in May this year.
Following the death threats, Mumbai Police has tightened the security at the superstar’s Bandra residence and have taken other security measures.
According to sources Salman had contacted Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar with a request for a gun license late in July. It is believed that the request was made through the proper channel and all formalities have been completed.
