Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked by an intruder at his Bandra residence in Mumbai during the early hours of Thursday, sustaining multiple stab injuries.
His 24-year-old son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, rushed him to Lilavati Hospital in an auto-rickshaw after realising no car was readily available. The hospital is approximately two kilometres from Saif’s residence.
Lilavati Hospital CEO Dr Niraj Uttamani revealed that Saif was brought in around 3 am with six stab wounds, two of them deep.
As per the latest reports, a neurosurgery team, led by Dr Nitin Dange, performed surgery to remove a 2.5-inch knife lodged in Saif’s thoracic spine and repair leaking spinal fluid.
Dr Dange confirmed that the actor is stable and out of danger. Plastic surgeons also operated on injuries to Saif’s neck and left hand, including a deep wrist wound.
“A neurosurgeon is involved in the surgery as one of the injuries is close to the spine. We are still assessing the extent of the damage, but Saif is able to move his limbs, which indicates the spine is intact,” a doctor, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated.
During the procedure, a fragment of the knife was found in Saif’s body, further complicating the operation.
The attack occurred around 2:30 am when an unidentified intruder entered Saif’s house and engaged in a scuffle with the actor. Several family members were present during the incident, including Saif’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, who was later seen speaking to house staff and the auto-rickshaw driver outside the hospital.
The Bandra police have launched an investigation into the case, but details regarding the intruder’s motive remain unclear.
