Ahmedabad’s popular Sabarmati Riverfront will see a temporary pause in all boating, water riding, and kayaking activities following a recent tragedy in Vadodara. This precautionary measure, implemented by the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL), comes two days after a boat capsize incident claimed 14 lives in Harni lake.
The decision immediately halts operations of the two companies currently offering these services at three locations along the riverfront. They have been instructed to submit all necessary permits for review. Notably, obtaining approvals from multiple authorities, including the Fire Department, Road and Building Department, Maritime Board, and Police Department, is mandatory for authorization to operate such services.
Officials emphasized the safety of frequenters as a key factor in the decision. While ensuring compliance with regulations was cited, additional investigations revealed missing crucial licenses from the police department and the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services. Until all required documentation is provided, the suspension will remain in effect.
This temporary shutdown serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety in leisure activities, particularly those involving water bodies. As investigations and permit reviews proceed, Ahmedabad residents and visitors can anticipate the resumption of these recreational options on the Sabarmati Riverfront once regulations are met.
