Pandemic pushed the entire world online, including the courts. In such a scenario, there were many junior lawyers who changed their profession owing to a deteriorating financial situation. However, in the year 2020, 4742 people from across the state obtained registration certificates from the State Bar Council for the practice of advocacy.
This figure is perhaps proof that advocacy is a preferred career choice amongst the youth today.
For a law graduate to enter the legal profession, especially after the year 2010, has to clear two types of charters. Once that is done, they have to mandatory pass the Bar Council exam. On clearing the exam, the Council provides a Practice Certificate to the lawyer. In Gujarat, about 3,500 people register with the State Bar Council every year. It is mandatory for lawyers to pass the Bar Council examination within two years after registration. For those who do not pass this examination within two years, their provisional certificates issued by the Bar Council of Gujarat is automatically revoked so that they cannot advocate.
