In a right to information hearing matter, the Gujarat HC has directed the Departments of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor employed by the Gujarat University to share information with the Appellate Officer of the University on the number of vacant posts, vacancies and reserved and unreserved seats.
The RTI application was filed by Dr Mehul Chavda. It is understood that Dr Chavda required the information to authenticate his research papers on “Caste and Technology.” However, despite filing for the same under Public Information Act-2005, the varsity declined to share the information.
He sought information about the revenue of the university, including:
statistical information of the total revenue sanctioned in all the departments, the total filled posts and the total vacancies;
subject-wise, category-wise statistical information of assistant professors, associate professors and professors performing duties in all departments
General, SC, ST, OBCs serving in Gujarat University.
