Kalupur police have filed a complaint against a man and a woman from Maharashtra for allegedly attempting to traffic a two-month-old child for Rs 5,000 from Ahmedabad city to Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. An officer of Railway Protection Force from Wardha in Maharashtra had caught the two, identified as Chandrakant Patel, 40, a resident of Indiranagar in Malad (East) of Mumbai; and Draupadi Meshram, 40, a resident of Dhammanagar in Nagpur city, on December 25.
The two along with the child were travelling in the S-3 coach of Navjeevan Express from Ahmedabad to Chennai. During questioning, Patel and Meshram confessed that they were not the real parents of the child and they were to hand over the child to a woman named Mumtaz in Vijayawada. They also told the cops that a man from Ahmedabad city, identified only as Krunal, had handed the child over to them and paid them Rs 5,000.
