Rohan Gupta, a prominent figure in the Congress party, announced his resignation today. This comes after he withdrew his candidature from the Ahmedabad East seat in the Lok Sabha elections on March 18.
There had been speculation that Gupta would resign from the party only after withdrawing his candidature. This speculation was put to rest today with his resignation. Gupta cited family reasons for his decision, stating that his father’s ill health was a significant factor.
“Amidst the personal crisis, I spent last 3 days with my father while he is battling serious health conditions which has really helped me understand his perspective. He narrated the incidences of betrayal and sabotage for last 40 years and how the leaders got away in spite of their ill doings. The wounds of those incidences have still not healed which I could see in his tears. He doesn’t want me to pay the same price as the whole family has seen the mental trauma I have gone through in last two years which was caused by the senior leader connected with Communication Department. My father could visualise the same thing happening to me which I could not. He tolerated the same and ended up spoiling his health and underwent bypass surgery which he never wanted me to. We both are fighters and have fought various battles for the party for the last 40 years in our respective roles successfully. I am not afraid of anything. But when there is systematic conspiracy to betray me, I need to raise my voice. My humbleness should not be considered as my weakness. I have learnt my lessons hard way.” Gupta cited on X.
Gupta’s name was announced as a candidate on March 12. Within six days, he sent a letter of non-candidacy to state president Shakitsinh Gohil. In the letter, Gupta revealed that his father, Rajkumar Gupta, had been admitted to the hospital due to deteriorating health.
Rohan Gupta was appointed as the National Spokesperson on June 20, 2022. Prior to this, he served as the Chairperson of Social Media and Digital Platforms.
Rohan Gupta, the son of veteran Gujarat Congress leader Rajkumar Gupta, completed his bachelor’s degree from a private college in Pune. He joined the Congress in 2012 and has held various posts since then. His father, Rajkumar Gupta, has also held important positions in the Gujarat Congress over the years.
