Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has been ordered to pay Rs 13.7 lakh as compensation to the family of a man gored by a cow five years ago.
The civil court ordered the municipal corporation to pay compensation to the family of Mukesh Rathod who died during treatment after the attack by cow. Senior civil judge IM Shaikh asked the RMC to pay the amount with 6% interest from the date of filing the suit. The incident occurred in August 2018.
Rathod, a resident of the Ganjivada area, was going home on his bike around 9pm when a stray cow collided with his bike. When Rathod fell on the road, the cow gored him. Rathod suffered severe injuries and died within a few hours in the hospital. Even as Rathod lost his life, the Thorala police had lodged an FIR against the deceased for negligent driving under IPC section 279.
Rathod’s wife Meena had filed a civil suit demanding compensation of Rs 15 lakh after her husband died.
In the civil suit, Meena alleged that she lost her husband due to negligence of the RMC, police, and district collector’s office. The suit alleged that the FIR was registered against her husband to cover up the negligence of the municipal corporation.
Rathod was working as a private security guard along with doing the labour work at construction sites. The compensation was demanded considering his meagre income, age, and number of dependents.
