Ranjith Ramachandran’s remarkable journey from a night watchman to an assistant professor at IIM Ranchi serves as a testament to the power of determination and hard work in achieving success. His story has become an inspiration to many, establishing him as a role model in society.
Originally employed as a night guard at a BSNL telephone exchange in Panathur, Kasargod district, Ranjith faced numerous challenges on his path to education and personal growth. Despite the obstacles, he persevered with unwavering dedication, ultimately realizing his dream of becoming an IIM professor.
Living in a modest single-room mud hut, Ranjith had to work as a night watchman to sustain himself. His father worked as a tailor, while his mother earned a daily wage through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
Ranjith pursued his undergraduate studies at St. Pious College in Kanhangad, Kerala, specializing in Economics. He later pursued a doctoral degree at IIT Madras, one of the country’s premier institutions.
Reflecting on his time at IIT Madras, Ranjith admitted feeling desperate due to his limited knowledge of languages other than Malayalam. Communication became a challenge, and he contemplated quitting. However, Dr. Subhash, his professor at IIT Madras, encouraged him to persevere. Eventually, Ranjith secured a position as an Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi.
Following his doctoral degree from IIT Madras, Ranjith briefly joined Christ University in Bangalore before receiving his posting at IIM Ranchi. Although he also made it onto the merit list for professorship selection at Calicut University, he did not ultimately secure the position.
In a widely-shared Facebook post, Ranjith candidly shared the hardships and struggles he endured while trying to make ends meet. He dedicated his success to his humble parents, who sacrificed everything to shape him into the person he is today.
Ranjith’s Facebook post quickly went viral, accumulating over 37,000 likes. In an interview, he expressed his surprise at the post’s widespread impact, explaining that he shared it as a means to inspire those who find themselves facing challenging circumstances.
Hailing from a remote village in the northernmost part of Kerala, Ranjith’s story is widely appreciated as an immensely inspiring one, with many viewing him as a role model. His journey serves as a reminder that with perseverance, dedication, and hard work, one can overcome adversity and achieve their goals.
