Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant has opened up about the harrowing experience of his December 2022 car accident, revealing the chilling realization that flashed through his mind during the ordeal.
The near-fatal crash near Roorkee left Pant with serious injuries, including a torn ligament in his right knee and multiple cuts. The 26-year-old has been absent from competitive cricket ever since.
In a recent interview with Star Sports, Pant shared the unnerving thought that crossed his mind in the aftermath of the accident: “First time in my life I felt like my time in this world was up. During the accident I was aware of the wounds, but I was lucky as it could have been even more serious. I was feeling that someone saved me. I asked the doctor how long will it take for me to recover, he said it would take 16-18 months. I knew I had to work hard to cut this recovery time.”
Pant’s teammate Axar Patel also reflected on the terrifying news he received shortly after the accident. He recalled, “Early morning I got a call from sister Pratima. She asked me when did I talk to Rishabh Pant last? I told her that I was about to talk to him last day but I did not. Pratima said that she needed Pant’s mother’s contact number as the player has met an accident. At the first time, I thought he is gone.”
Fortunately, Pant underwent successful surgery in Mumbai and is expected to make a full recovery soon. He has been actively involved in his recuperation journey, sharing glimpses on social media and attending the IPL 2024 auction and a Delhi Capitals training camp.
