Save Life Hospital in Ahmedabad has introduced Gujarat’s first AI-powered robotic system, MISSO, for joint replacement surgeries, marking a significant step in medical innovation. The system, inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, is led by Dr Rutul Gandhi, Director of Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement.
MISSO combines AI with advanced robotics, offering personalised pre-planning and precision in knee replacement surgeries. The system features an optical sensor, 6-axis robotic arm and real-time intraoperative adjustments to ensure optimal results. This approach reduces post-surgery complications and speeds up recovery, providing a safer, more efficient option for patients.
Dr Gandhi highlighted that AI-powered robotic surgeries improve precision, minimise risks, and enable faster recovery, making world-class healthcare accessible to all. Success stories, such as a 75-year-old patient with heart complications and a 62-year-old with chronic knee pain, showcase the technology’s effectiveness.
Al-based Robotic knee replacement provides numerous advantages. Enhanced visualisation and precise control enable surgeons to tailor procedures to each patient’s unique anatomy, ensuring optimal alignment and implant fit. This precision reduces post-surgery complications, such as pain and swelling, while enhancing joint functionality. Moreover, Al-based robotic techniques minimise tissue damage and blood loss, resulting in shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery time.
He has operated more than 50 patients since the launch of this machine in July 2024.
