Famous Canadian actor Donald Sutherland, recognised for his iconic performances in films such as The Dirty Dozen and The Hunger Games, has died at the age of 88 in Miami following an extended illness.
Sutherland, who was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, became well-known for a wide range of roles that highlighted his abilities and versatility. With roles in renowned films like The Dirty Dozen, MASH, Klute, and Don’t Look Now, among many others, he rose to prominence as a counterculture legend.
He played romantic leads, villains, antiheroes, and mentor figures with equal brilliance throughout his career, earning praise and admiration from audiences across the world.
One of Sutherland’s roles in The Hunger Games franchise was President Snow, which helped him regain popularity in the entertainment industry.
His portrayals as Judge Parker in the television series Lawmen: Bass Reeves and Swimming With Sharks in 2022 continued to captivate viewers. His accomplishments extended beyond the big screen.
Sutherland received high marks from critics for his performance in the Lifetime miniseries Human Trafficking in 2006 and received an Emmy for supporting actor in 1995 for his captivating role in HBO’s Citizen X.
