Reliance Jio made an announcement on Friday that it has put off the launch of JioPhone Next, the low-priced smartphone developed in partnership with Google, to Diwali. The phone was initially scheduled to be launched on September 10 on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
The company further said in a statement that both the companies had begun testing the JioPhone Next with a limited set of users for further refinement and are working towards making it available widely in time for the festive season of Diwali. The company said that the delay would help the company address the industry-wide, global semiconductor shortages.
It added that testing of the JioPhone Next with a limited set of users for further refinement has begun and efforts are being made to launch it before Diwali.
The JioPhone aims to serve customers who are looking for a budget-friendly smartphone so as to upgrade from 2G to 4G connectivity. The price of the phone is not revealed but it is expected to be packed with features like a voice assistant, automatic read-aloud of screen text, language translation, and smart camera with augmented reality filter.
