The monsoon season is in full swing over the state of Gujarat, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall affecting various districts. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts indicating that these rains will persist for the next five days, until July 20th.
Red Alert Districts
For the next 24 hours, a red alert has been declared for several districts:
- Surat
- Navsari
- Valsad
- Daman
- Dadara Nagar Haveli
In Saurashtra, the following districts are also under a red alert:
- Rajkot
- Porbandar
- Junagadh
- Dwarka
Orange Alert Areas
Several other districts have been placed under an orange alert due to the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rains:
- Panchmahal
- Dahod
- Chhota Udepur
- Narmada
- Bharuch
- Dang
- Tapi
In Saurashtra, the following districts are also on orange alert:
- Surendranagar
- Jamnagar
- Amreli
- Bhavnagar
- Morbi
- Gir Somnath
- Botad
- Diu
Upcoming Alerts
On July 17th, although no red alert is currently in place, the districts of Panchmahal, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadara Nagar Haveli, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh and Dwarka will be under an orange alert with the possibility of very heavy rainfall.
On July 18th, an orange alert is in place for the districts of Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadara Nagar Haveli, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh and Dwarka.
Isolated Heavy Rains
Certain areas are likely to experience heavy rains at isolated places:
- In the Gujarat region: Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Ahmedabad, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Dang and Tapi.
- In Saurashtra-Kutch: Surendranagar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Gir Somnath, Botad, Kutch and Diu.
On July 19th, heavy rains are expected in isolated places in South Gujarat, including Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadara Nagar Haveli, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Dwarka and Kutch in Saurashtra-Kutch.
Finally, on July 20th, heavy rains are very likely in Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadara Nagar Haveli, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and Diu in Saurashtra.
