Prajwal Revanna, the former MP for JD(S), who is accused of rape and sexual abuse against many women, was sent to 14 days of judicial custody by a Bengaluru court on Monday.
He was produced before the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court as his Special Investigation Team (SIT) custody ended today.
On May 31, the court remanded him to SIT custody with an extension till June 10.
During Revanna’s custody, the SIT questioned him extensively about the allegations and carried out a thorough investigation, gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses.
The court decided to send him to judicial custody for 14 days till June 24, after considering the seriousness of the charges and the evidence provided by the SIT.
The 33-year-old grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former PM H D Deve Gowda fell short in his bid to retain the Hassan parliamentary constituency in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
Shortly after Revanna’s May 31 return from Germany at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, SIT officials took him into custody.
On April 27, a day after Hassan went to the polls, he left for Germany. A ‘Blue Corner Notice’ had previously been issued by Interpol, after the SIT had sought information through the Central Bureau of Investigation, asking for information regarding his location.
In response to an application made by the SIT, a Special Court for Elected Representatives issued an arrest warrant for Revanna on May 18. He was arrested in a case filed against him in Holenarasipura, Hassan district, on April 28. He was charged with harassing a 47-year-old former maid sexually. His father, H. D. Revanna, the MLA, is the main accused, and he is listed as the second accused.
Three cases of sexual assault have been filed against Prajwal Revanna. He’s also facing charges of rape.
