Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, which was one of the most talked about movies of 2023, is all set to stream on Netflix from January 26, 2024. The film, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has emerged as the second highest grossing movie of the year, after Jawan, with a worldwide collection of more than Rs 800 crores.
The film, which is a dark and violent thriller, revolves around the life of a ruthless gangster, played by Ranbir Kapoor, who is haunted by his past and seeks redemption from his estranged family. The film also stars Anil Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Bobby Deol and Tripti Dimri in pivotal roles.
The film had a successful theatrical run, despite facing stiff competition from Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire and Dunki, which released around the same time. The film also received mixed reviews from the critics and the audience, with some praising Ranbir’s performance and Vanga’s direction, while others criticizing the film for its excessive violence and misogyny.
However, Ranbir Kapoor, who had remained silent on the controversy, finally opened up about the film during its success party. He said, “I want to thank all of you for being here today to celebrate Animal. It is a film that a section of people had an issue with but I feel the kind of love, success and the numbers (it has received) proves that nothing goes beyond the love for a movie. Nothing goes beyond movies.”
The OTT version of the film will be longer than the theatrical version, which was 3 hours 21 minutes. Some scenes, which were modified or cut in the theatrical release, will also be included in the Netflix version. Vanga had revealed in an interview that he regretted editing out some scenes from the film and that he would use them in the OTT version.
Netflix had hinted at the streaming of the film on the day of its theatrical release, by dropping a photo of Ranbir Kapoor on its social media handles. However, the official announcement regarding the streaming date was made by a twitter handle, which claimed to have exclusive information about the film.
The film is expected to attract a huge viewership on Netflix, as it is one of the most anticipated films of Ranbir Kapoor, who has a massive fan following across the globe. The film is also likely to generate more debate and discussion among the viewers, as it deals with some sensitive and controversial themes.
