A video of yoga guru Ramdev claiming to be a Brahmin and dismissing OBCs sparked outrage on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. However, Ramdev clarified that he never made any remark on OBC and that he was talking about AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, whom he called an anti-national. “I never gave any statement on OBC,” Ramdev said in response to a question. “Owaisi? His ancestors were traitors. I don’t take him seriously,” he added.
The video, which was not verified by Vibes Of India, showed Ramdev boasting about his Brahmin lineage and his knowledge of the four Vedas. “My original gotra is Brahma gotra. I am an Agnihotri Brahman. People say babaji is OBC…I am a Vedi Brahmin, Dwivedi Brahmin, Trivedi Brahmin, Chaturvedi Brahmin,” he said on a TV channel.
The video triggered a #boycottpatanjali trend on X, with many users accusing Ramdev of insulting the OBC community. A Congress social media coordinator asked, “Why isn’t Fraud Ramdev arrested yet for insulting the OBC community?” He quoted Ramdev as saying, “OBCwale apni aisi-taisi karwayein,” which roughly translates to “OBCs can go to hell.”
Owaisi also shared a post that criticized Ramdev for changing his stance and calling his OBC remark a reference to Owaisi.
