Renowned scriptwriter, film director, and producer Rajkumar Hirani has been honoured with the Madhya Pradesh government’s National Kishore Kumar Award for 2023.
The esteemed award was presented to Hirani on Sunday at an event in Khandwa, the birthplace of the legendary singer, by MP Tribal Affairs and Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Shah.
The event was organised to commemorate the anniversary of the legend’s passing. He died on 13 October 1987 in Mumbai, and his last rites were performed in Khandwa.
Speaking at the event, Hirani stated that Kumar was his favourite artist and that it felt wonderful to receive an award in Kumar’s honour.
Established by the state’s Department of Culture, the award includes a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and is awarded alternately for scriptwriting, direction, and playback singing, all disciplines linked to Kumar.
With hits like Munnabhai MBBS (2003), Lage Raho Munnabhai (2006), and Three Idiots (2009), Hirani is one of the nation’s most successful filmmakers.
