RAJKOT: In a move resonating with the historic consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has renamed a prominent flyover in the city as “Shree Ram Bridge.” This decision, taken on Friday by the RMC’s general board, aims to commemorate the momentous occasion of Lord Ram Lalla’s idol installation in Ayodhya.
The flyover, previously known as KKV Chowk flyover on Kalavad Road, holds strategic significance in the city’s traffic flow. Its recent christening as “Shree Ram Bridge” signifies the corporation’s intent to imbue the infrastructure with a spiritual dimension, aligning it with the spirit of “Ram Rajya” – an ideal state of governance associated with Lord Ram.
The proposal to rename the flyover was tabled as an urgent item by Jaymin Thakar, the current chairman of the RMC standing committee. His predecessor, Pushkar Patel, readily seconded the motion. Mayor Nayna Pedhadiya, after accepting the resolution, presented it for the board’s consideration, which was met with unanimous approval.
Speaking to reporters, Mayor Pedhadiya stated, “As the auspicious day of Ram Lalla’s idol installation approaches, an atmosphere reminiscent of Ram Rajya is enveloping the nation. It is in this spirit that we, at the RMC general board meeting, declared the bridge at KKV Chowk as Shree Ram Bridge.”
The flyover, constructed at a cost of Rs 129 crore by the RMC, stands tall above the existing Chimanbhai Shukla flyover on a 150-foot road. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the structure in July 2023.
To mark the renaming and celebrate the Ayodhya temple inauguration, the RMC will unveil a plaque on the bridge on Monday. Renowned religious leader Ramesh Oza, revered for his Bhagwat Purana discourses, will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
This transformative decision by the RKC not only underscores the significance of the Ram temple inauguration but also paints Rajkot’s infrastructure with a unique brush of faith and cultural reverence. The “Shree Ram Bridge” now stands as a symbol of both urban progress and spiritual upliftment, echoing the enduring legacy of Lord Ram in the hearts of the city’s residents.
