Three workers were killed in an explosion at a cement manufacturing plant in Padidad village in Gondal taluka of Rajkot district in Gujarat, early this morning.
According to police sources, workers were engaged in welding at a high-bond cement plant at a cement manufacturing plant in Padidad village in Rajkot and a blast occurred due to a spark in the storage structure. Due to the blast, workers were crushed by debris and three of them lost their lives. Many workers suffered injuries in their arms and legs.
The plant covers 366 hectares and has the annual capacity to manufacture 1.5 million tonnes of cement.
Upon learning of the incident, a police convoy immediately rushed to the spot to control the damages and carry out the rescue operation. Further investigation will be carried out to determine the exact cause of the explosion and the deaths.
The deceased have been identified as Ashish Solanki (25), Rahul Pampania (22) and Amarnath Vishwakarma (30). Solanki was a native of Devalpur village of Kodinar while Pampaniya Gir was a native of Sutrapada village of Somnath. Vishwakarma was a native of Uttar Pradesh.
The injured have been shifted to a private hospital in Gondal for treatment. Their bodies were later moved to another hospital for postmortem.
