Distinguished Rajkot based businessman Mahendra Faldu committed suicide early Wednesday morning. A suicide note was sent to all leading dailies holding Ozone Group responsible for driving him to the extreme step. Others named include builders and promoters Amit Chauhan, MM Patel, Atul Mehta and the “people of Ahmedabad.”
Mahendra Faldu was also among the trustees of Sardardham. He was chairman of Saurashtra’s prestigious social organization UV Club. He is survived by his son, Priyank. Preliminary investigations prove that Faldu planned the act. “He instructed us to report late to work,” shared his staff about the previous evening.
On learning of the unfortunate incident, friends including Rajkot city BJP president Kamlesh Mirani, standing chairman Pushkar Patel rushed to the civil hospital. “It is unthinkable that Mahendrabhai would ever do this. The body has been sent for post mortem,” stated the deceased’s friend, Pushkar Patel, also chairman of Rajkot Manpa’s standing committee.
Mahendra Faldu had invested in Ozone Group and bought land near Ahmedabad in 2007. However, there seems to be some discrepancy in the number of times the land was bought and sold between “him and his relatives.” The matter is being probed, briefed police sources.
At the heart of the incident, it seems, “the builders were threatening the investors via associates in the police and administration. He often complained of mental harassment from Ozone top honchos and when it came to fund embezzlement. In fact, four other suicides have been reported of people linked with Ozone business,” shared a family relative present at the hospital.
