Rajasthan will soon see the introduction of Vande Bharat Express trains after the Indian Railways set aside Rs 30 crore for these high-end services. The state already has five Vande Bharat chair car rakes allocated by the railway board, with two going to Jaipur and one each to Madar, Udaipur, and Sri Ganganagar.
“In the budget, Rs 30 crore has been allocated for Vande Bharat services in Rajasthan. The fund would be utilised to install high-rise panto overhead the rakes of Vande Bharat as they are needed on many routes under the North Western Railway (NWR). Besides, we need to upgrade the coach depots for the maintenance of these premium rakes. The work for upgrading the Jaipur coach depot would start soon,” said Vijay Sharma, general manager of NWR.
The inaugural Vande Bharat Express service in Rajasthan may connect New Delhi and Jaipur, according to recent Indian Railways reports. Instead of the current four hours, the travel time between the two cities will probably be less than two.
Eight Vande Bharat Express trains are now running on various routes throughout the nation. In fact, Vande Bharat sleeper classes might also be available in Rajasthan in the future. For the maintenance of Vande Bharat Sleeper Class trains, the railway board has given the go-ahead to build a greenfield coach depot.
Rajasthan will receive a total of Rs 8636.85 crores from the Indian Railways for the fiscal year 2023–2024. Of which a significant portion had been approved for different conversion-related projects, passenger conveniences, and safety.
Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Rs 8636.85 crore is a huge amount, It is actually 24 per cent more than last year’s allocation of Rs 6724.29 crores.”
