Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has unveiled the Rajasthan Free Mobile Yojana 2023, a scheme aimed at empowering women across the state. Under this initiative, eligible women will receive free mobile phones, which has sparked debates over its potential to revolutionize the lives of women in Rajasthan. With approximately 1.33 crore women expected to benefit directly from the program, its impact cannot be overlooked.
The Gehlot government has announced the distribution of free mobile phones to women. If the tendering process encounters obstacles, alternative measures will be taken to transfer funds directly to the women’s bank accounts, enabling them to purchase phones of their choice.
Gehlot emphasized that women will have complete autonomy in selecting the mobile phone model, company, and specifications by receiving money in their own accounts. This approach aims to ensure that women can script their own stories of smart empowerment.
The Rajasthan Free Mobile Yojana 2023, announced during the budget speech for 2022-23, will be rolled out in three phases, with the first phase coinciding with Rakshabandhan, during which 40 lakh women will receive phones.
Under the scheme, the government will allocate approximately Rs 1,200 crore to provide free mobile phones to the heads of 1.33 crore Chiranjeevi families in the state. Additionally, these mobiles will come with free internet data for a period of three years.
As discussions ensue regarding the potential impact of this scheme, particularly in light of the upcoming assembly polls scheduled for December 2023, Gehlot aims to secure votes from the women’s section by providing them with smartphones and free data, solidifying his commitment to their empowerment.
