The recently concluded Rajasthan elections saw 1875 candidates running for office across 200 constituencies. Among these candidates, a noteworthy 326 (17%) had declared criminal cases against them, while 236 (13%) faced serious criminal charges.
In a testament to the growing influence of wealth in politics, a substantial 651 (35%) of the candidates were Crorepati (millionaires ). Additionally, 916 (49%) of the candidates possessed graduate degrees or higher qualifications.
However, a concerning 94 (5%) of the candidates failed to disclose their PAN numbers, raising questions about transparency. Women’s representation in the elections stood at 10%, with 183 female candidates contesting.
These statistics provide a snapshot of the candidate pool in the recent Rajasthan elections, highlighting the presence of criminal cases, wealth, education, and gender dynamics among the contenders for political power.
