Rains May Dampen Navratri Festivities in Gujarat

| Updated: October 9, 2024 17:40

As the Festival of Navratri continues, Kheliyas have been enthusiastically playing Garba late into the night for over six days. However, the joy of Garba enthusiasts may be dampened in the coming days, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued predictions of light rain in certain regions of South Gujarat and Saurashtra.

According to the IMD’s latest forecast, light to moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and surface winds gusting at 30-40 km/h are expected at isolated locations in several South Gujarat districts, including Narmada, Surat, Dangs, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, as well as in Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The affected Saurashtra districts include Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and Diu, with rain anticipated on 9 October.

The forecast for 10 October also indicates light to moderate thunderstorms with similar wind conditions in the same regions. On 11 October, light rain is likely in South Gujarat districts, specifically Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dangs, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad and in Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, as well as the Saurashtra districts of Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and Diu.

Further predictions suggest that light rain may continue in these areas on 12 October. However, from 13 to 15 October, dry weather is expected to return across Gujarat.
