Israel and Netanyahu have come under heavy criticism, even from friendly quarters, for their military onslaught on Rafah in Palestine. An Israeli strike killed at least 45 people, including children, at a refugee camp in Gaza’s Rafah.
The attack was conducted just days after the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to halt its operation in Rafah. The international community is outraged at the act of Israel, which is seen for the first time being isolated and openly criticized. Israel has disregarded global opinion and even US warnings and continued with the Rafah strike.
A social media campaign is also trending with the caption, ‘All eyes on Rafah’, with celebrities around the world expressing support for Palestinians.
Critics point out that with the atrocious and cruel attacks on civilians and children, Israel is rapidly losing its high moral ground of self-defence against Palestine. Rafah town is Gaza’s last refuge. In fact, it is alleged that, Israel made an appeal earlier to the Palestinian civilians to move there.
The ongoing conflict has caused more than 1 million Palestinians to be displaced. The war between Hamas and Israel has brought unspeakable horrors to the people in the area. The war began after Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7 where more than 1,170 people died. Israel has retaliated by killing at least 36,000 people in Gaza.
