Many areas of South Gujarat and Saurashtra were recipients of great rains this week; though Ahmedabad remained to be on a break with no rainfall. Junagadh’s Mangrol Taluka received the highest rainfall of 79 mm, followed by Kheda’s Mahemdabad (74mm) and Junagadh’s Manavdar (68mm). Isolated places in different regions such as Patan, Banaskantha, Anand, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir-Somnath, and Rajkot also oversaw rains.
On Wednesday, Ahmedabad recorded the highest temperature in the State with a figure of 39.7 degrees, followed by Gandhinagar at 39 degrees celsius.
The IMD has stated that several places in the state including districts in Saurashtra and South Gujarat like Rajkot, Surendranagar, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Amreli, Narmada, Navsari, Valsad, and Surat besides others are expected to experience rainfall till Monday. Other isolated places in Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Ahmedabad, and Patan are also predicted to receive rainfall.
Meanwhile, it seems that Rajkot may experience rains on the 4th T20 match between India and South Africa that is scheduled on June 17th. Rains went on in Rajkot on Saturday and Jagat Trivedi, officer-in-charge at IMD gave the prediction that the city is supposed to receive medium rainfall in the next five days. This means there is a possibility that the match that is supposed to take place on Friday, might be troubled by rain. The Met Department’s website has also given a forewarning that a thunderstorm might take place on Friday in Rajkot.
The well-known local weather analyst Ashok Patel has shared that Friday is expected to be windy, with skewed showers, but the sky is expected to be clear during the match hours.
Both the teams have already arrived in the city, to play the match at SCA Cricket Stadium. It is after two years that Rajkot is hosting an international cricket tournament. This has stirred excitement and curiosity in the residents of Rajkot to witness what shall happen next.
