Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the fourth time today in connection with the National Herald case.
Gandhi was questioned three times last week and will be questioned again on Friday. However, he wrote to the central agency, requesting that it be postponed until Monday so that he could visit his mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who is in the hospital for Covid-related issues.
The Congress had turned the first three rounds of Gandhi’s questioning into a show of force, with party leaders taking to the streets of the national capital and facing detentions.
The Congress’ Ajay Maken claimed on Monday morning, ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s new round of questioning, that of the Enforcement Directorate’s 5,422 current active cases, 5,310 were filed during the last eight years of the Modi government. As the Congress prepares to take to the streets against the government once more, Ajay Maken stepped up his criticism of the Delhi Police following the party’s alleged attack on its headquarters last week.
Ajay Maken claimed that the ED was implementing a “glow and lovely scheme,” referring to a popular beauty product that later changed its name. “The ED and CBI have a box of this “glow and lovely” on hand, and they clearly tell leaders not to criticise the government. Then their slate is completely clean.” Using Maharashtra leader Narayan Rane and former Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa as examples, he said the investigation agencies are being misused against critics of the Government and cases against them are withdrawn the moment they join the ruling party.
