R H Kapadia, a primary school in the Thaltej area of Ahmedabad, is in news for the wrong reasons. The controversy stems from the school accepting admissions for the fresh academic year despite being de-recognized by the Ahmedabad District Education Officer.
The school was de recognized after the owner of the building rented by the school alleged that the premises should have been vacated as the lease agreement had expired on March 31.
The Ahmedabad DEO had slammed a notice on the school administrator stating that the school be derecognized from May 9, 2022. The DEO had also directed the school to not admit students for the year 2022-23.
After the school defied the orders by advertising and going ahead with the admission process for the new academic year, the DEO issued a fresh notice to the school. The notice warned the school authorities of strict action if they do not stop the admission process. The notice said that the administration will be fined Rs one lakh and an additional penalty of Rs 10,000 per day will be imposed for running the school, the notice states.
Since the school comprises both secondary and higher secondary classes, the DEO has submitted a report to GSHSEB, a decision that is pending.
“We have issued a notice to RH Kapadia school for initiating the admission process despite derecognition and clear directives issued earlier. We will take strict action against the school if it does not halt the process,” said Hitendra Padheriya, DEO, Ahmedabad city.
