PWC roped in to identify gaps in Ahmedabad’s claim to 2036 Olympics

| Updated: November 19, 2021 19:26

Eagerly aspiring to host the 2036 summer Olympics Games in keeping with wishes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Amit Shah, the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) has roped in globally known PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) as a consulting agency.

The PWC has been tasked to assess the gaps in infrastructure to host the games as well as conceptualize, plan and put a vision and road map to host the Games. A team of the consulting agency has already given a presentation to Gujarat Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar.

AUDA has identified 22 different locations for the games in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, which have the potential to host the games. Shivrajpur Beach and Polo Forests are the picks for water games.

The Gujarat Government will engage with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) early next year and submit the documents. If approved, the opening ceremony of the Games could be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium. hosting the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics The Indian Olympic Association chief Narinder Batra had also suggested this.

Official sources claim the ambience around the stadium has everything that a host country may require. “Motera has BRTS while it will also have the metro and a bullet train halt, which closes the gap between actuality and desired results,” says an official.

The proposed 236-acre Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave will have sports facilities like an indoor swimming pool, athletics track and field, hockey and tennis stadiums, indoor sports arenas and many more. These will strengthen Ahmedabad’s case as a host.

A Gujarat Government press release said, “Such games act as a catalyst to large scale community and health benefits, as more people adopt sports as a lifestyle or as a career option.”
