Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India in the near future, the Kremlin announced today, noting that Moscow and New Delhi are “coordinating the dates”. The visit, expected early next year, forms part of an established arrangement for reciprocal annual visits between the leaders of the two nations.
Without disclosing details of the agenda, Kremlin spokesperson stated, “We look forward to the visit. The dates will be mutually worked out soon.”
During his visit, President Putin will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The two leaders had last met in late October when PM Modi travelled to Kazan, Russia, for the BRICS Summit. PM Modi invited President Putin to come to India.
Referring to the Russia-Ukraine crisis, Prime Minister Modi told President Vladimir Putin at their last meeting that India supports peaceful resolutions to disputes.
“We have been in touch with all sides in the Russia-Ukraine problem. It has always been our position that all conflict can be solved with dialogue. We believe there should be peaceful solutions to conflicts. India is always ready to help bring peace,” he had said.
India and Russia have a long-standing “special and privileged strategic partnership” and PM Modi has stated that New Delhi will do everything in its power to put an end to the conflict and find a peaceful settlement that both Russia and Ukraine can agree with.
