Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India in 2025 following an invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov. Speaking at a briefing, Ushakov stated that the dates for Putin’s visit would be decided in early 2025.
“Our leaders have an agreement to hold meetings once a year. This time, it’s our turn,” Ushakov explained. “We received Mr Modi’s invitation and we will certainly consider it positively. We will figure out the tentative dates early next year,” he added.
The invitation was extended by PM Modi during the 16th BRICS Summit, held in Kazan in October 2024. Modi invited Putin to attend the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit scheduled for next year.
The Prime Minister’s Office later issued a statement highlighting that the two leaders conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including political, economic, defence, energy, and cultural ties.
This meeting marked the second interaction between the two leaders in 2024, following their earlier engagement at the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit in Moscow in July.
At the Kazan BRICS Summit, PM Modi expressed his appreciation for Putin’s invitation to the summit and praised Russia’s leadership within the BRICS framework. Modi acknowledged Russia’s commitment to strengthening multilateralism, fostering sustainable development, and advocating for reforms in global governance.
In the statement, the Prime Minister’s Office noted, “The two leaders also reviewed bilateral cooperation in a range of fields, including political, economic, defence, energy, and people-to-people ties. They welcomed the forthcoming meeting of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Cultural Matters, which is scheduled to be held in November 2024 in New Delhi.”
Discussions between the leaders also addressed India-Russia collaboration in multilateral forums such as BRICS and included an exchange of views on key regional and global issues, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
