Punjabi actor and farmer activist Deep Sidhu died in a road accident near Delhi on Tuesday after his white Scorpio rammed into a stationary truck.
Sidhu had hit the headlines for his involvement in the Republic Day tractors rally in Delhi last year, which had later turned violent. The accident took place on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway near Kharkhoda, Haryana.
According to the police, the actor was traveling from Delhi to Bathinda with his friend Reena Rai, being former in the driving seat when the accident took place. Both were rushed to the hospital after the incident, where Sidhu was declared dead on reaching and Rai survived.
On February 9, 2021, the Delhi police arrested Deep Sidhu for his involvement in the violence during the farmer’s tractor rally at the Red Fort on Republic Day. After getting bail in the previous case of violence, he was charged by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for damaging public property during the protest. However, he was granted bail in the case on April 26.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi took Twitter and conveyed his condolences to Sidhu’s family. “Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of renowned actor and social activist, #DeepSidhu. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and fans,” CM Channi tweeted.
Deep Sidhu had a huge fan following. His last post on his Instagram handle shows his mirror selfie image with a caption of his upcoming song “Je Assi Lahore Padhde Hunde..”, where he informed his fans that the song will be out soon.
